The "Golden Tortoise" competition for the best photographs of wild nature represents Russia's largest non-commercial cultural, ecological, and educational event in its kind. Annually, approximately 20,000 photographs focused on nature are submitted for consideration; from these, only around 200 images are selected for exhibition, underscoring the highly selective and prestigious nature of the contest.
The culmination of the contest is an official exhibition based on the awarded works. This exhibition is notable for being the largest touring photographic showcase in Russia, traveling across numerous cities including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Kurgan, Irkutsk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Lipetsk, Ryazan, and Tula. With a combined attendance surpassing one and a half million visitors, the tour has garnered recognition as a major cultural event in various urban centers.
